What is eFoil racing?

An eFoil is a surfboard-sized board with an electric motor and a hydrofoil — an underwater wing mounted on a mast beneath the board. Once the board reaches speed, the wing generates lift and the board rises out of the water. The rider stands on a board that is quite literally flying, with only the foil slicing through the water below.

Because the board no longer touches the surface, there is almost no drag and no chop. The ride is silent, smooth and fast — controlled entirely by the rider's balance and a handheld wireless throttle.

eFoil racing takes that machine and puts it on a buoy course. At The Miami Foil GP, two riders launch side by side on mirrored courses — a pure head-to-head battle where the fastest line, the cleanest carve and the best start win the heat.

Round-robin heats decide who advances, and the top four riders in each category meet in a final. A full-field Enduro distance race caps the day. No wakes, no engines you can hear — just riders flying inches above flat water at full speed.

The sport is young, which means the door is open. The Miami Foil GP runs four divisions — PRO, Open Men, Open Women and Open Youth (under 19) — each capped at 10 riders, plus an unlimited Enduro anyone can enter.

You bring your own board, foil and wing; an approved flotation device, helmet and impact protection are required on the water. Every entry includes an official Miami Foil GP racing pullover that is yours to keep.
